The tassels are the finish, and they are built bead by bead.

Each is a small cluster of gold and faceted black beads gathered under a gold cap, so the ends of the lariat carry weight and movement rather than simply stopping. Making two that hang alike takes longer than the rest of the strand.

The body is dense black seed bead, punctuated with faceted black crystal that catches light without adding colour. Set among them is rhodochrosite — a manganese carbonate that forms in banded layers of rose and pale grey, most famously in the silver mines of Argentina, where it grows in stalactites that reveal concentric rings when sliced.

That soft rose is the only warm note in an otherwise sharp piece, and it is the reason the whole thing does not read as severe.

No clasp, so no fixed length. Knot it high, double it, or wear it long and open.
