The pendant is a Jerusalem Cross, hand-cast in brass rather than stamped — you notice the weight when you pick it up, and it hangs the way a cast piece should. One large cross with four smaller ones set into its quadrants, a design carried since the eleventh century.

The strand is natural lapis lazuli, hand-strung here in Wisconsin. Look for the small gold flecks through the blue: that is iron pyrite, the traditional mark of genuine lapis rather than a dyed substitute.

Between them sit Tibetan brass beads inlaid with turquoise and coral, hand-set in Nepal, with faceted topaz that warms the blue.
