Gold and Himalayan brass belong together, and this necklace is built on that agreement.

The strand is dense gold seed bead, warm rather than brassy, catching light along its whole length. Set into it at intervals are Tibetan brass beads inlaid with turquoise, coral and lapis — formed and set by hand in the Kathmandu Valley, each fragment of stone seated in its own cell so no two beads are identical. A teardrop station with a coral centre anchors the front.

Between them sit mottled blue sodalite rounds. That cool blue is doing important work: without it the gold and brass would blur into a single warm mass.

Most pieces using Tibetan brass ground it in black or dark wood. Setting it in gold is a warmer, livelier choice, and the inlay colours read brighter for it.

Wear it with white, cream, denim or black, and let it be the only thing you put on.
