Two materials from two traditions, alternating down the whole strand.

The flat discs are yellow jasper — an opaque, patterned member of the chalcedony family, worked since antiquity for seals and amulets. Each disc carries a slightly different depth of ochre, because natural stone does not arrive uniform.

Between them run longer tube beads of Krobo powder glass from Ghana: recycled glass ground fine, packed into hand-carved clay moulds and wood-fired, then striped in soft green and peach by hand before a second firing. The slightly matte surface is what the process leaves behind.

Stone and glass, geology and craft, set side by side so each makes the other more visible.

Dark bronze seed beads fill the back of the strand so the weight sits evenly, and a hammered gold toggle closes it at the side rather than hiding behind the neck. The centre bead — a speckled amber and green tube — anchors the whole piece.

Warm throughout. It belongs with cream, camel, olive, rust and denim, and it will carry an outfit on its own.
