Dendritic agate carries fern-like mineral inclusions that formed inside the stone as it developed — they resemble plant fossils but are not organic at all. They are manganese and iron oxide, grown into the agate over an unimaginable span of time. Every one is a different pattern, and none can be reproduced.

It is set against natural sodalite chips, which are irregular by nature — no two the same size, no two the same shade of blue. That irregularity is what gives the strand its texture and keeps it from reading as manufactured.

This is an everyday piece rather than an occasion one. It sits at a comfortable length, it goes with denim and white shirts and cable knits, and it costs less than the more constructed necklaces because chip work is faster to string.
