Agate forms in layers, filling a cavity in volcanic rock over an unimaginable stretch of time. Each band was laid down as conditions shifted — mineral content, temperature, the presence of water. What you are looking at is a cross-section of that process.

Which is why matching a pair takes sorting rather than ordering. No two stones carry the same banding, and finding two that speak to each other means going through a great many.

These run chocolate through caramel and cream, two elongated stones to an ear, each framed in gold wire that follows the edge of the stone rather than obscuring it. The ear wires are formed by hand.

The neutral palette makes them considerably more wearable than their size suggests. They go with camel, cream, black, denim, olive and rust without any adjustment at all.

Natural stone. The pair you receive will not match this photograph exactly, and that is rather the point.
