Sea sediment jasper is the reason to look closely. Each round carries a different map of it — turquoise running into rust, green into ochre, veined with white where the minerals separated. It reads almost like an aerial photograph, and no two beads are alike because no two sections of the parent stone are.

Anchoring them are two olive-green ceramic ovals with a speckled, kiln-fired glaze, capped in antiqued brass. Tiger eye rondelles and dark seed beads fill between, keeping the brighter stones from crowding one another.

The palette is genuinely earthy rather than muted — there is real color in here, but nothing that fights with denim, camel, olive or cream.
